by Monty Python
album: Monty Python Sings (1991)
The most interesting thing about King Charles the First
is that he was 5 foot 6 inches tall at the start of his reign,
but only 4 foot 8 inches tall at the end of it.
Because of...
Oliver Cromwell
Lord Protector of England (Puritan)
Born in 1599, Died in 1658 (September)
Was at first (only)
MP for Huntington (but then)
He led the Ironside Calvary at Marston Moor in 1644 and won
Then he founded the new model army
And, praise be, beat the Cavaliers at Naisby
And the King fled up North, like a bat! Toward the Scots...
But under the terms of John Pimm's Solemn league and covenant,
the Scots handed King Charles the first over to...
Oliver Cromwell
Lord Protector of England (and his warts)
Born in 1599, Died in 1658 (September)
But, alas! (Oy vey!)
Disagreement then broke out (between)
The Presbyterian Parliament and the military who meant
to have an independent bent and so,
the second Civil War broke out
And the Roundhead Ranks faced the Cavaliers at Preston Banks!
And the King lost again, silly thing (stupid git)
And Cromwell sent Colonel Pride to purge the House of Commons
of the Presbyterian Royalists, leaving behind only the rump Parliment.
Which appointed a High Court at Westminster Hall
To indict Charles the First for...
TYRANNY!!! (Ooohhh!)
Charles was sentanced to death
Even though he refused to accept
That the court had...
Say goodbye to his head!
Poor King Charles, laid his head, on the block.
January 1649
Doooooown came the ax. (gasp)
And in the silence that followed, the only sound that could be heard
was a solitary giggle, from...
Oliver Cromwell
Lord Protector of England (Ole!)
Born in 1599, Died in 1658 (September)
Then he smashed (Ireland)
Set up the commonweath (and more)
He crushed the Scots at Worcester
At beat the Dutch at sea in 1653, and then
He dissolved the Rump Parliament
And with Lambeth's consent, wrote the Instrument of Government,
Under which Oliver was Protector at last!
The End!

Writing in capitals only ..hum?

Holly ( who loves to look up these things ) tells me Cromwell only wrote in capitals and she now thinks he'd have used green ink had it been available .This is all part of his mania , David Starkey is pretty sure he had manic-depression and or bi-polar syndrome. There is a wonderful scene in "To Kill A King" in which he storms down a long room and shouts at the King then slams the lid of his virginals down ..on 2x this looks like he has just Madge's fingers in the lid ( Madge being His Maj. ) We love to imagine what else he might have done ...thrown his 10 volume set of Romantic novels on the fire ..yes honestly he had them but more in the Romantic lit as in Knights and maidens stuffie .

Okay who knows this man ?

Holly found this in today's "Independant" ..a quality paper not a tabloid gossip rag .

Pearl Guarantee

We found a box of Pearls at the charity shop and then discovered this in the guarantee. It would be sad if it was'nt so funny.

E.Bay win..

Sadly not much but I want to compare it to Rowan's "Damask" ..I got it for a snip anyhow.

" My Song is Love Unknown".

My song is love unknown
My saviour's love to me ,
Love to the loveless shown ,
that they might lovely be.
O who am I ?
That for my sake
My Lord should take frail flesh and die.

Samuel Crossman.

After commenting on the lack of spirituality at Christmas on Wordpress I thought I'd post my favourite Hymn .

And so to bed..

Holly goes to bed happy in a kid mohair cardigan courtesy of T.K Maxx . Meanwhile Mum takes to bed her joyous bags of half-price "Tapestry" from her L.Y.S . I have no idea why they cut the price on a new yarn but I got a pack of Vintage and a blue mix . Heaven forbid I should follow a pattern these days so they will end up as part of shawls but I am happy. Holly wasn't interested in either in particular so they are all mine. They had "Roma" too but when I saw it was something like 88% viscose I wanted to laugh as these are promoted as the classsy end of Jaegar .Viscose goes hard and that is a fact .The only yarn that has a high percentage that stays soft is Colinette's Zanzibar or Shimmer 5. Posted by Picasa
