Oh my, and such a handsome face/head for the lopping....what a waste.(the looks anyway)
If anyone had told me Rupert Everett could play Charles 1st I'd have laughed .His looks so suit Charles 11nd .A red-haired, slight man with a frail body and a terribly sad demeanour. The strange thing is he is brilliant. I don't think he looks that wrong and he does capture the dignity and the upper-class accent the King must have had ( Rupert has one himself). The best thing of all is how his eyes reflect the poor man's utter loneliness and isolation , still trying to keep his dignity yet being a prisoner in his own home ( that home being a Palace ) .His beloved Queen exiled in France and his only being allowed to have visits from two of his children. The actual speech made on the scaffold was one of England's greatest speeches . Rupert really captures the moment he flings out his arms into the arms of God. The King called it his second Wedding day .I think he'd had enough of life and despite so much sadness at leaving his family he wanted to die. At least it was quick .Queen Victoria loved him dearly so a few hundred years later she had him exhumed and an autopsy performed . He was re-buried where he'd been put but his memory was re-kindled .Our late Queen mother paid for the up-keep of the family memorial in the Vatican ..the King who died for Anglicanism but he would have approved at the end of the day .
That should say Charles 1st was the slight red-haired man.
